Anyone who has been misfortunate enough suffer the unpleasantness of panic attacks will have no problem relating to the anxiety build up prior to a panic attack, or even worse, a full scale panic attack in front of family or friends -who were unaware that you were suffering from the condition in the first place.

My anxiety build up’s were quite random to start with, well prior to my first few panic attacks anyway; that’s when I became consciously aware of the anxiety symptoms that I was going through and more importantly, what they would quickly lead to if they were not controlled or addressed, unfortunately for me, I took to long to accept that Panic Attacks affected me. Looking back, if I had accepted I was suffering anxiety and panic attacks, I could of found help and move on, because there is a solution to this horrible condition.

My first anxiety problems started after a fall out with several of my best friends at school, this affected me quite bad as I had never been involved in a fall out with friends to this extent. Within just a few weeks I found that sleeping at night was getting really hard, unwanted thoughts would eat away at my brain, going round and round my head keeping me awake into the small hours. I did not want to get up in the mornings, I found that I was avoiding hanging out with friends and just felt nervous far too often and for no reason.

Then came my first panic attack; I was driving at the time and remember thinking about the fall out that had happened a couple of months before. The symptoms were classic anxiety looking back now, thought eating away at me, heart beating ten to the dozen, I remember thinking that it was hard to breath properly, I was not aware of what was going on around me, even though I was driving at the time, that’s when it started, my first panic attack. The first I knew about it at the time was when a women had her hand on my shoulder telling me to relax, breath deep and slow. How embarrassing could that be, I had stopped at red lights and just totally lost control of myself.

The women (Jade) was really kind and stopped with me for quite a while whilst I regained my composure, she gave me her contact details because she understood just where I was as she had suffered anxiety problems for many years. Jade’s final solution to the problem was a self help product called Panic Away, although she had spent many years trying to get help from medication, which in her case did not resolve her anxiety problems. Jade gave such a glowing Panic Away Review I did eventually purchase it myself, but not a year or so later, which really was far to long looking back, but it seems it took me that long to accept that panic attacks were taking over my life.

I had visited my Doctor on a few occasions, but he was not very sympathetic to my cause. Looking back, this is when I really needed the support of my Doctor; I’m sure his attitude only made things worse as it took me longer to accept that panic attacks had a hold on my life.

Did you remember the time when you had your first panic attack? Whatever is the effect, whatever is that you have done, whatever it is that you have walked through, your first anxiety attack should be an eye-opener that will help you control attacks in the future. Sometimes people with a panic attack go to the ER thinking they are experience cardiac arrest as the symptoms are similar and come on suddenly. You’ll feel things like sudden feelings of uncontrollable fear, anxiety, shortness of breath, dizziness, trembling, rapid heart beat, hyperventilation, tingling sensation, nausea, etc. When they learn that it was actually panic attack and knowing the difference they can start learning how to control panic attacks instead of panic attacks controlling them. This is extremely important because often a panic attack will keep you from even doing simple everyday tasks. Actually, when you say panic attack, it is not a disease but rather is caused by physical, mental and emotional triggers. For instance, a disease like hypertension can make you go panicky and all. So, the disease can activate uncontrollable panic attacks. Genetics may play a part and females are more fitting to get them than men. Sensitivities to food, drink or chemicals can set off an attack along with trauma. Alcoholic drinks and drug can also activate panic attacks and disorders. Serious and upsetting experiences along with everyday events could trigger an attack. If you have this kind of situation, it’s best that you should try to find a Panic Portal therapy and not some sort of medication. Better yet, look for a practical sort of remedy.

Panic disorder may lead to “situational avoidance” where the panic attack sufferer will try everything to stay away from a place or situation where he feels an attack will crop up and some may even tend not leave their own premises which could be a very somber disruption to a normal life. Drugs can help temporarily but it can have some deadly side-effects and you have to agree with that now, is that correct?

So, what are the best solutions? People who had gone to a doctor for treatment said they were usually told they should avoid caffeine in colas, coffee, chocolate and tea. Fortunately, there are people who have shared various natural treatments they have used to avoid panic attacks without using drugs and one of the best among these treatments is extensively explained in recent Panic Away reviews.

The first choice that any panic attack sufferer can get is deep breathing. Taking in simple and deep, slow breaths can prevent hyperventilation. By getting hyperventilation under control, you elude things such as the dizziness which happens because there is too much oxygen being taken to the brain at one time. Breaking a sweat is also one good way to take away all those . An adrenaline rush usually accompanies an attack and the exercise can bleed it off according to people who use it. Another one of the best remedy is aromatheraphy. A former panic attack victim says that by using smells that bring back pleasing, such as baby powder, certain flowers, farm animals or barbecuing, it gave him a sense of relaxation. Some even said that aromas from essential oils or candles were the best. Meditation can also be a big help. You can go and ask support from a professional or you can just simply think happy thoughts and maybe you can have some pixie dust to go along with then, maybe, you can fly to Neverland where there are no troubles.

Anyway, there are many other solutions for panic attacks. You can also go for professional help like hypnosis or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but if you want to get rid of panic attacks the most natural way possible and right in your own home, you should confer with Joe Barry and his book called “Panic Away”. You can know more about Joe Barry and this best-selling self-help book of his by following any of the links above. If you are a panic attack patient and you want to control your panic attacks instead of the other way around, then, you should not hesitate to get a copy of this book guide by Joe Barry.

The reality of anxiety is that there is no such thing as a safe zone. There is nothing life threatening about a panic attack, and therefore sitting at home is the same as sitting under the stars on a desert island. Of course, your mind will immediately rush to tell you that a desert island is a ridiculous place to be as there are no hospitals, no tranquillisers, no doctors, NO SAFETY.

You need to review your previous experiences of panic attacks. Aren’t you still here, alive and well, after all those attacks during which you were convinced you were going to die?

It may be that on occasions you have been driven to the hospital where they did medicate you to calm you down, but do you really believe that you would not have survived were it not for the drugs? You would have. If the same bout of anxiety had occurred on this desert island, it too would have passed, even if you were all alone. Yes, when it comes to conditions that need medical attention such as asthma, diabetes, and a whole litany or other conditions, then having medical aid nearby is a big asset, but no doctor in the world would tell someone with anxiety that there are only specific safe zones in which she or he can move.

An Anxiety Problem may manifiest itself differently in different people.

There is a wide range of anxiety symptoms that may present as mild feelings of uneasiness or as intense as extreme fear. In some

cases, a little amount of anxiety is good and normal and it may even help to improve a person’s performance. There are features like having heart palpitations or a racing

heart as well as a lot of sweating that point in the direction of being an anxiety symptom. Symptoms such as irritability and lack of concentration as well as having strange

thoughts and having extreme mood changes are psychological symptoms.

For [Successful Treatment | A Remedy To Stick | Relief From Anxiety [/spin] One Needs to Attack the Root Cause

How does one know what the causes of anxiety symptoms are and who the people at greatest risk are. The answer

lies in the fact that anxiety symptoms are a result of anxiety disorders which may occur due to a change in the way amygdale, which is a small organ in the subconscious

brain, reacts. This is also known as anxiety switch. For treatment to be effective, there is a need for concentrating directly on these symptoms and the treatment should

be aimed at the root causes of any anxiety disorders, which in other words, is an inappropriate reaction of the amygdale.

It may be noted that everybody may have experienced anxiety symptoms at some point of time in their lives and most are able to effectively deal with such situations.

It’s worthy of note when a person feels an unusual rise in the body’s adrenaline levels. This commonly sets off a

chain reaction of normal but unwanted reactions which results in powerful anxiety symptoms that greatly affect the person afflicted.

There are also instances of some people experiencing symptoms when there is no obvious cause and these are known as free-floating symptoms that can be

discontinuous in nature or may continue over a longer period of time. Some even have situational anxiety wherein the anxiety symptoms can be correlated with particular

situations.

One may also wonder whether anxiety symptoms are harmful and the answer is

no. They do not cause harm to the person even though they often elicit a sense of dread and fear, but anxiety symptoms are not harmful as they are really exaggerations

of normal body sensations and reactions. It bears repeating that to treat anxiety symptoms, one has to address the root cause, which lies in the amygdale, where anxiety

is created and stored as well as sustained.
When something bothers you, the first thing that you should do is take note about the matter. Similarly, when we talk

about anxiety information, one should know all the pros and cons of the treatment, or preferably seek out a treatment that offers no side effects… such as behavioural

modification therapy.

For and Excellent Program to Help Rid Yourself Of Anxiety visit Stress and Anxiety

This New York based anxiety clinic has a fine reputation for assisting people to come to grips with their anxiety symptoms and specific anxieties.
Their succes rate is quite remarkable and the resources they provide are second to none.

Only when you are in the possession of a reasonable amount of anxiety information, can you sit down and take a decision. In order to decide which one of the many

therapies are the best, it is often best to discuss it with the doctor and measure all the pros and cons of the therapies available.

If you opt for a medication regime to help you, remember it is normally contraindicated to take anti-depression or anti-anxiety drugs combined with alcohol. Those who

drink alcohol habitually should be extra careful about this as the results can be serious.

Fighting anxiety and depression can be successful. It just requires a lot of understanding from friends and family and lots of patience on your end. Having a strong support

system can be the biggest asset you have on your pat to recovery, so enlist help from your friends and family and see the results for yourself!

There may come a time when a person needs to determine if a loved one needs to seek help for his or her problems. In fact, there may come a time for many when it is important to be able to recognize bipolar disease symptoms.

diagnose for bipolar disease symptoms fall into three main categories. These are manic symptoms, psychotic symptoms, and depressive bipolar disorder symptoms. If several of these symptoms are occurring, it may be time to go in for a consultation.

Manic diagnose for bipolar disease symptoms are numerous. They all share a certain feeling, though. Everything is faster, grander, and generally bigger than life. A person in a manic state may be much more active than usual. He or she may think and talk faster than he or she usually does. Everything about that person is exaggerated, including his or her overwhelming feeling of self importance.

Such a person may have grand schemes and adventures in the works. When these plans don’t pan out, that person will generally put the blame on some extraneous factor if, in fact, he or she takes the time to consider it at all. Usually, it’s simply off to the next idea. These are not just whimsical behaviors, but are actually bipolar disorder symptoms.

When manic, people tend to be reckless. They can end up doing things that effect their personal relationships or may go so far as landing them in jail. This may be seen by someone who is not alert to diagnose for bipolar disease symptoms as simply a problem with their conduct. The truth is that those people probably need treatment to do better. It isn’t just a matter of making up one’s mind to do the right thing.

There are also physical bipolar disease symptoms of mania that may be quite obvious. A person who feels little or no need for food or sleep may turn out to be in a manic state. While some may be able to function this way, at least for awhile, most of us need rest and sustenance to maintain ourselves.

Psychotic bipolar disease symptoms come mostly with mania, but can come often with mixed moods and occasionally with depressive bipolar disorder symptoms. Psychosis merely refers to a break with reality. This can come in the form of hallucinations, both auditory (hearing voices, etc.) and visual. Delusions, or false beliefs, are also bipolar disorder symptoms. For example, a person may falsely believe that he or she is actually some famous historical figure.

During depression, bipolar disease symptoms can often be easily seen if one is willing to look carefully. Apathy may be a sign of depression, but other clues are even more telling. Indecisiveness and low self esteem seem to go hand in hand in depressive bipolar symptoms.

Physical bipolar disease symptoms of depression include fatigue, weight gain or loss, and eating or sleeping more or less than usual. The person who is displaying bipolar disorder symptoms of depression seems to be telling the world that he or she simply doesn’t care enough take good physical care.

One should never look for trouble where there is none. There is no need to be afraid of any slight variation in the moods or habits of a loved one. However, if things just don’t seem right, it doesn’t hurt to be able to recognize bipolar disease symptoms.

Our lives today have become much more hectic - what with having to balance life at work with responsibilities at home. Even taking care of children can put a heavy responsibility on our shoulders; together these factors can contribute to greater stress in our lives for which a suitable solution needs to be found that will help stop anxiety and panic attack.

The Main Goal

Living a life that is free from stress should be our main goal because stress is a major trigger than brings on anxiety and panic attack that in turn can devastate a person’s life. Stopping anxiety and panic attack is something that needs to be considered very seriously, especially as it affects you in a way that can prove to be very discomforting and unbearable.

The people most likely to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks are classified as Type-A, and as such they are also the group of individuals that are most in need of solutions with stopping anxiety and panic attacks. These type of people tend to have the perfectionist traits in every task they do and so have the tendency to be stressed more than other type of people.

The ability to deal with stress adequately can help in stopping anxiety and panic attack, and this may require non complicated methods such as performing simple routines and exercises, or even meditation and deep breathing to bring down the stress levels thereby preventing anxiety and stress. At the point in time that stress sets in you can quite simply put your hand over your somach and breathe deeply, this will allow your stress to start flowing out and this way you are less likely to suffer from a panic attack or anxiety.

It is also possible to stop anxiety and panic attack by going outside the home and getting some fresh air into your lungs; you can also walk as well as run for twenty minutes a day which will ensure that you endorphins get released and so reduce stress levels and that in turn helps to stop anxiety and panic attack. In the same vein, listening to music (preferably, classic) can help in controlling your blood pressure as well as becalms you.

Many people suffer from anxiety and for those that do suffer elevated levels of panic attack and anxiety, the most ideal thing for them to do is to learn techniques that can deal with anxiety disorders and panic attack. Many of these techniques are really just breathing exercises and some exercises that deal with muscle relaxation.

The most effective means of stopping anxiety and panic attack is to identify the causes and know the origin, then seek advice form professionals in this field. That said, stress needs to be dealt with as early and effectively as possible as this is a major contributor to the problem.

If you are among those who suffer from panic disorders or anxiety disorders, then you are most likely always on the lookout for methods that will prevent the onset of a panic attack. Fortunately, this is a well researched topic and there are many options available that can fight anxiety and depression at the same time. Many factors have been identified that will trigger a panic attack and there are always some very obvious and tell-tale signs when one is about to happen. Your ability to read these signs as early as possible is the best tool to preventing and counteracting them. Once you have trained yourself to recognize the signs that indicate that the onset of a panic attack is just about to happen, you can move on to identify and learn about remedies for these.

The most important remedy while fighting against a panic disorder is to take action. Do not wait for it to wash over you; do not wait to pit your strength against it and measure your will power against the storm that is created by an anxiety panic attack. The best way to stop panic attacks is to prevent them. Traumatic as it is, a few simple steps at the onset of an attack can help you tremendously. Most experts would say that you should not brace yourself against it, but rather roll with the wave. In this way, the attack will come and go, and you will not feel devastated the next day.

A little out of the way, but well recommended by doctors, is the effort to improve self esteem, which, it seems, is directly connected with depression anxiety. Depression in turn, happens when your self-expectations are thwarted by your abilities. The timing is very important, so you should be careful when one is taking over your self-control. You need to know that basically all panic disorders are the result of some mismatch between who you think you are and how others perceive you.

Panic disorders, as the name indicates, can fill you with panic and a dreadful, end-of-the-world type of feeling. Stress, anxiety and depression are a few of the many triggers that usually result in panic attacks. The best way to fight these attacks is to learn to identify the triggers, and as much as possible, eliminate them. According to health guides and experts, taking action and appropriate treatment, and having a supportive family are some things that are needed to prevent attacks. As long as you are able to foretell the signs, you should be able to remain in control. In fact, when you speak of identification of triggers, you should understand that these are not of standardized quality. They are unusual, circumstance-specific and this is why it is important that you work, to the best of your ability, to single them out accurately because this means freedom from this dreadful disease.

Millions of people deal with panic disorders each day of their lives. They are locked in a vicious cycle of needing help but not knowing how to get it. If you suffer from these conditions it can make each moment seem like forever. It changes who you are and what you wish to be. But do not give up hope. There is a bright future ahead for you if you take the time to know your condition and ailment. It may seem impossible at times but you can get through this.

You may think that your life has become something of a nightmare, if you’re somebody who experiences frequent anxiety attacks. These attacks can happen almost anytime, anywhere, and with or without good cause.

Thus, it can make both your work life and your social life an impossible task, as they can be very overwhelming both mentally and physically. But take your heart first; there’s help for your anxiety attacks, in the form of medicines and behavioral therapy to get you through them.

Doctors are also sometimes baffled at what the causes are and why it is happening, whilst there are sometimes causes for anxiety attacks. Some persons have imbalances of chemicals in the brain or seem to have a particular type of internal wiring that causes these attacks sporadically, like sudden surges of electricity that are without warning or cause.

Scientists still have so much to learn about the human brain and its wiring and workings, so it is really not a surprise that they’re at a loss when it comes to something as anomalous as unprovoked anxiety attacks.

Physicians and doctors have discovered that numerous medications such as Zoloft or Paxil have a comforting effect on the processes that control or trigger anxiety and compulsions. These drugs keep the hormones and other elements liable for anxiety attacks on an even keel, so to speak. They can keep somebody more calm at all times, and work well regardless of the type of anxiety, be it panic attacks, social anxiety disorder, or even obsessing compulsive disorder.

Do you suddenly feel anxious or fearful for no reason? The symptoms that come over your body may be a sign that you are having panic attacks. You need to understand that there are ways to stop panic attacks, so that you can live your life free from these symptoms and enjoy life fully.

Panic attacks may seem like they last forever, but in fact, they only last from 15 to 30 minutes. Having a panic attack can make you feel as if you are going to die, but the symptoms will subside after a while. By doing research about panic attacks and how to stop panic attacks, you can better learn how to control the symptoms to allow you to live your life.

Some people are able to “ride out” their panic attacks, simply because they have learned that the symptoms will go away if they wait long enough. These people are more experienced with the attacks, but if they have just started occurring, you may feel as if you are having a nervous breakdown or heart attack and may call for emergency assistance. Either way, you need to realize that these attacks can be overcome with the right panic treatment.

A panic attack can affect the entire body, which is what makes them so scary. From shortness of breath to dizziness to sweating to nausea and more, every process in the body can be affected by the sympathetic nervous system. The nervous system is stimulated during a panic attack, which causes the symptoms and the anxiety that you feel from the symptoms then increases the effect, causing the symptoms to continue.

The sudden onset of the panic attack is what separates it from other conditions that it is often mistaken for, including a heart attack or nervous breakdown. The symptoms are very scary and this is what leads many people to call for help, especially the first time they have a panic attack.

By visiting the doctor, you can get the assistance that you need to stop panic attacks once and for all. Therapy is normally the first thing that is suggested, but if it does not relieve the symptoms, you can try some other treatments to help the panic attacks end.

Paper bag breathing is one method of treatment for panic attacks. Breathing into a paper bag will help to balance your oxygen and carbon dioxide levels to help the symptoms of your panic attack subside. If you find that this treatment does not help, you can try medications to help relieve the symptoms, including anxiety and depressions medications.

By seeing your healthcare provider for your panic attacks, you can get the care that you need to help treat your symptoms. The panic treatment plan that your physician lays out should be followed to ensure that you will get the results that you are looking for. Panic attacks don’t have to impact your life ? find a treatment that works for you.

Despite the fact that social anxiety is one of the most commonly occuring psychological disorders very little is known about how and why it happens and why it continues to become even more common.

The condition can present itself in many different ways. General paranoia where someone feels like everyone is watching them when logically they know that is not true is one such example.

Fear of the phone ringing or someone knocking on the door or wanting to lock themself away from the dangers of the outside world are very common symptoms of social anxiety disorder.

In the end social anxiety sufferers experience a life of constant worry and apprehension about how they are seen and how they are judged by others. Because of this fear they withdraw and keep away from people and to a large extent the outside world as a whole.

A very common example of where social anxiety would be especially problematic is public speaking or being interviewed.

Oftentimes this generalised fear will turn into a full on social phobia which is a much more severe form of the condition that has now become a psychiatric disorder. The signs here in addition to the extreme self consciousness is severe fear and anxiety to go with it.

And there is the ever present overwhelming worry about being watched and judged by others and the fear of embarrassing or humiliating themselves in front of other people. Usually some social trigger will set things off. This does not even need to be actually happening just percieved to be happening.

Today as the numbers of people with social anxiety increases many methods, both conventional (from medication to psychotherapy) and alternative (from acupuncture to hypnosis) are being offered as possible solutions. There is something you can do to help with your social anxiety.

It’s true that just about everyone will usually experience anxiety in one form or another during the course of his or her life. Just hearing the phone ring in the middle of the night or hearing about an imminent snowstorm can cause a measure of anxiety or nervousness.

But when people talk about anxiety, they commonly mean something much more terrible than merely a bit of nervous reaction to some unexpected event. Full-blown disorders including panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, and even Obsessive-compulsive disorder are considered forms of anxiety, and whole fields of drug are dedicated to their study.

Some folks experience these symptoms so severely that they’re somewhat socially crippled, unable to hold down a job, meet new people, or function outside their home at all.

According to the Federal Institute of Health (NIH), “about 40 million American adults ages 18 and older, or about 18.1 % of people in this age group in a given year, have an anxiety disorder.” They also bring out that it is not uncommon for people to suffer from more than one type of anxiety disorder - for example, somebody experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder may also feel frequent panic attacks. Obsessional compulsive disorder can also be tied to depression, and so on.

18 % of people is almost one in five, so the next time you think that you’re the only one that feels the way you do or are the only one fighting these symptoms, walk through the mall or think of a group of people you know, such as at work or your place of worship. Chances are that for every five or six people there, widely one of them has an anxiety disorder of one type or another.

When you think about anxiety, chances are that you associate in with stressed out adults who have hectic jobs. However, something that many people tend to overlook is the fact that anxiety in children is just as prevalent as anxiety in adults.

Causes for Anxiety in Children Are Due to Few Factors

It is important to realize that even though children do not have jobs to contend with, which causes the abundance of anxiety in adults, there are many other reasons for anxiety in children. A main cause of anxiety in children has to do with home life.

For example, if a child has an abusive parent or parents, the child will frequently endure from anxiety in the dread that he or she will be hit for the flimsiest of reasons. Also, cause of anxiety in children can likewise be induced by divorce. Indeed, any kinda abrupt alteration in home life can result in anxiety issues in children.

What Are The Anxiety Treatment In Children?

However, it is important to note that anxiety in children can happen just because of genetics. For example, if anxiety disorders run in a family, the chances are good that a child will inherit an anxiety disorder as well.

Therefore, what can be done for children who are enduring from anxiety? The foremost thing that ought to be done is coordinating a session schedule with a therapist. If the child is in school, there is also an option for the child to visit a school guidance counselor.

If the child looks to have inherited an anxiety disorder, the following thing that ought to be done is puzzling out if medication is requisite. In order to compute this out, the child will need to go through a few blood tests.

Sometimes, children who are exceptionally smart will experience anxiety simply because they want to do well in school. These children are often thought of as overachievers, and they will setter for nothing less than an A.

For children such as these, mediation must be enforced. Attempt to get the child to strike a balance between school and other activities. However, grades are of significant, and if the child states an interest to focus on grades instead of extracurricular activities, then that is generally alright. As parents you will be able to identify the signs of anxiety in children.

If you would like additional information on anxiety issues in children go to your local library. The computers in your library have online databases that can guide you to online or print medical journals. You are for certain to pick up interesting information about childhood anxiety with the suitable research.

There are several techniques and methods of dealing with panic attack and anxiety disorders, but breathing may the most overlooked method. As we all know, anxiety and panic attacks can be very scary experiences. The person suffering from panic attacks can become incompetent to do anything and it can be difficult to treat. In most cases breathing techniques can be very helpful and used with excellent results.

Few of the breathing techniques are hundreds of years old and in the past these techniques were very important part of one’s life. Of course it still is, but sometimes it seems that our breathing is one aspect of panic attack treatments that can be overlooked. In many activities, like theatre and singing, breathing techniques are very important and also regularly used and practiced. Luckily we can use these techniques with panic attack in anxiety disorders and gain dramatic benefits.

The first and most important fact that needs to be understood is that breathing heavily during a panic attack will actually make it worse. In such a situation the individual has to start breathing slowly, abdominally. Learning this technique can actually allow control over panic attacks and even prevent them.

Chest breathers are usually the most prone to suffer panic attacks from anxiety disorders. If one doesn’t train properly and long, it can be extremely difficult to learn breathing with the aid of diaphragm. Person can even be trained to breathe slowly with a diaphragm and that way to remove panic attacks.

There is a very common technique, used as a basis in panic attack anxiety treatment, which is also used in drama classes to make one’s voice more powerful. This technique begins off by a person lying on his/her back. Then she positions one one hand of her chest and another hand between her ribs and navel.

There is a need for a quiet environment surrounding and the next step is focusing on allowing the belly to rise with ease while inhaling and fall when exhaling. The chest needs to be held still with your hand.

You need to begin centering and making your breath come from your stomach and not from your chest. Don’t rush the technique! Take your time and focus! It’s not at all effortless to acquire this breathing method but when got the hang of it, it can bring in an immense difference for persons enduring of incessant panic attacks.

One of the most important things to remember while learning this or any techniques that can aid in panic attack anxiety is not to hurry the process. We all learn at different pace so one shouldn’t try to make everything go faster.

As in most cases, you should seek for the help of an expert, who can simply being there make a huge impact. As you feel panic attack coming, these breathing techniques, once mastered, can make a big difference. You will gain confidence, get a stronger voice, more stable breathing and you will trust more in your capability.

Once you begin to learn what anxiety panic attacks feel like, you will begin to recognize the signal of an attack as it is starting. Knowing the signs that signal an anxiety attack will help you stop the attack before it occurs. We will discuss some tips to help you keep anxiety under control.

* Pay attention to the things that are happening when your anxiety attacks happen. If you learn what activities or events trigger the anxiety attack you will be better prepared to stop them. For example if you know every time you go into a crowded store you have a panic attack, you could choose to rearrange your shopping plans for a time when the stores are less filled.

* When you feel an anxiety attack starting, stop what you are doing and go outside. Often the change in scenery and the fresh air will stop the attack from continuing. Or go for a short walk as that will get you moving and can also help your attacks.

* If you feel yourself beginning to get tense and anxious, try to relax by taking several deep breaths. Deep breaths should continue until you feel the anxiety begin to leave.

* Clearing your mind can help manage an oncoming anxiety attack. If you feel an attack coming on try thinking of something completely unrelated to your current situation. Focusing on a blue sky or a field of flowers may help you become calm.

* Have a friend or family member help you to stop anxiety panic attacks by giving them a sign that one is approaching. This could be a hand gesture or a word. When they get the sign, they will know to help you focus on something else.

* There are essential oils that have relaxing scents. Excellents scents to help ease anxiety include chamomile or lavender. At the begin of the attack, smell the oils and this should help you stop the attack at the beginning.

* Another way to stop anxiety attacks from occurring is to begin writing whenever you feel one approaching. Write down exactly what it is you were doing when the anxiety started. This will help you identify the triggering factors.

* In the event of an anxiety attack, make a change in what you’re doing. If you’re reading, get up and do some housework. Altering the activity you’re engaged in can change your mental state and quash the attack.

Learning what triggers anxiety disorders will make it much easier to cope with your anxiety. Being prepared for your attacks will make them more manageable and less distressing.

Learning how to stop them at the beginning of an attack, will help you take control over your life. It will take time to learn the signs. Just be attentive to what you are doing when you feel an attack begin.

Have a journal to write down this information. Compare the information to check to see if a pattern is established. Once you find repetitive patterns, you will know what is causing the attacks and you will be better able to stop them.

Many people who suffer from panic attacks are too embarrassed to seek help. They would rather hide their problem from the world than decide to get help. You do not have to suffer alone.

Deciding to get help for your panic attacks can be the first step in getting your life back on track. Many people with panic attacks live normal lives. They have found ways of dealing with the panic so it does not control them.

Getting help for your panic attacks may be terrifying to you. You might be worried about what other people will think. Do not let this stop you from getting the help you need.

Panic attacks can make you afraid to leave your house, to contact your friends, or to engage in other important aspects of your life. Left unchecked, they may lead into other problems such as acute phobias or depression.

It can be tempting to use alcohol or drugs to try and cope with panic attacks. While this may seem like a temporary solution, it will not cure your attacks and can lead to serious health consequences and addiction.

Drugs and alcohol can actually make your condition worse. Alcohol is a depressant and will magnify your anxiety while simultaneously decreasing your emotional capacity to cope. Drugs can have a wide range of serious and unpredictable effects on your mood. You should not think of drugs and alcohol as helpful.

If you decide to get help for your panic attacks, the best place to start is in seeking professional help. You may wish to talk to a doctor or a psychiatrist, or you may wish to contact a counselling service. Any of these avenues will be able to discuss your condition and show you a variety of paths towards overcoming your panic attacks.

You will find that there are a variety of treatments for panic attacks. The treatment you use should be up to you but you need to know all the options for treatment before you decide. Treatments include behavioral therapy, talk therapy, medication, acupuncture, herbal supplements, meditation or a combination of treatments.

There is no reason you should not live a normal life. That is a goal which is achievable, and is worth the cost and effort of seeking treatment. Many people who initially thought their condition was overwhelming have gone on to regain control of their panic attacks and of their lives.

Once you begin your treatment, no matter which one you choose, you will feel so much better because you are taking a positive direction. By learning how to control your anxiety, you will eventually be able to prevent panic attacks or stop them when you feel them starting.

If you think you cannot be helped you are wrong. There are so many different types of treatments available that one is sure to help you. It may take trying a few different treatments before you find one that works.

Sometimes more than one type of treatment is needed. Usually the treatment plan will be more effective if you combine two like medication and therapy. The medication helps control the anxiety, while the therapy helps you deal with your feelings.

There is no reason to have to deal with panic attacks alone. Seeking help for your panic or anxiety is an important step you will not regret. You will be astonished at the improvement you can achieve with treatment.

There is no good reason to wait. The first step to improving your life is improving your attitude. Seek help today, and you’ll be on your way to beating your panic attacks and living the better life you deserve.

Some people that are too ashamed to get help for their panic attacks turn to drug and alcohol. The drugs and alcohol allow them to forget their troubles for a while. This can lead to more problems.

The drugs and alcohol can affect their mood and make them focus solely on the negative things in their life. This can cause more anxiety and lead to more attacks. Drugs and alcohol are not the answers to your problems.

The first thing you should do after deciding that you are ready for help, is talk to a professional. This can be your family doctor or a psychiatrist. Both of these professionals will be able to offer you different methods of treatment to help you.

Panic attacks can be treated in many ways. Which treatment you opt for is a matter for you, in consultation with your health professional. Popular options include meditation, therapy (including behavioural therapy), herbal remedies, acupuncture, and medication.

And don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you can not be helped because that is a negative attitude. Think positively! Besides, with so many types of treatments there is definitely one that will help you. You may have to try several before you find one that makes you feel better but you will eventually find a treatment that is right for you.

Often you will need a combination of treatments. An example would be taking a prescription while going through talk therapy or a support group. The medication helps control the anxiety and the support group helps you with finding out what the problem is behind the anxiety or panic attacks.

Taking the first step towards getting treatment is usually the hardest. But you will be amazed how much better you will feel when you have taken that first step and start treatment. There is no reason to let control of life be taken out of your hands.

There is no good reason to wait. The first step to improving your life is improving your attitude. Seek help today, and you’ll be on your way to beating your panic attacks and living the better life you deserve.

by Wendy Jones

The short and obvious answer: panic attacks are caused by high anxiety. But, what exactly is anxiety? Understanding how anxiety crops up will help you defeat panic attacks.

Fortunately, contrary to many myths, anxiety cannot harm you and it cannot lead to any life threatening conditions. It can and does make you feel bad, but cannot cause you physical harm. Though that doesn’t really help when you’re experiencing it.

What is Anxiety

Anxiety is defined as a state of apprehension or fear resulting from the anticipation of a real or imagined threat, event, or situation. It is one of the most common human emotions experienced by people at some point in their lives.

However, most people who have never experienced a panic attack, or extreme anxiety, fail to realize the terrifying nature of the experience. Extreme dizziness, blurred vision, tingling and feelings of breathlessness - and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

When you go through these experiences, it’s very easy to feel like you’re losing control, which is a very scary feeling in itself. To make matters worse, you can’t really understand why this happening to you, and whether or not you’re actually experiencing a more serious medical condition like a heart attack.

A Root Cause of Panic Attacks - The Fight or Flight Response

I am sure most people have heard of the fight or flight response as an explanation for one of the root causes of panic attacks. Have you made the connection between this response and the unusual sensations you experience during and after a panic attack episode?

Anxiety is a response to a danger or threat. It is so named because all of its effects are aimed toward either fighting or fleeing from the danger. Thus, the sole purpose of anxiety is to protect us from harm. This may seem ironic given that you no doubt feel your anxiety is actually causing you great harm…perhaps the most significant of all the causes of panic attacks.

However, the anxiety that the fight or flight response created was vital in the daily survival of our ancient ancestors - when faced with some danger, an automatic response would take over that propelled them to take immediate action such as attack or run. Even in today’s hectic world, this is still a necessary mechanism. It comes in useful when you must respond to a real threat within a split second.

The brain will send a signal to the nervous system when danger presents itself. The nervous system then gets the body ready to act as well as helps the body to restore to a homeostatic state. In order to make sure that these necessary functions are carried out our autonomic nervous system is made up of two subsections called the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous systems.

The sympathetic system stimulates our body to release adrenaline, which gives us the ability to take action and to keep taking that action (running away, fighting etc). Once the perceived danger has passed, the parasympathetic system takes over and starts to calm us down again, back into a calm and relaxed state.

Remaining Calm Comes Naturally

Whenever you use some form of “coping strategy” that you may have been taught for controlling your attacks, it’s the parasympathetic system that you are calling into action. One thing worth remembering is that this system will always be brought into action at some point during your anxiety attacks whether you call it into action or not. It’s a built in protection system we posses which helps us survive.

The next time you have a panic attack you need to remember that it is not possible physically for the anxiety that you are feeling to cause you any bodily harm. The mind might make the feelings go on longer then what your body wanted them to, but balance will return. The fact of the matter is that our bodies are constantly striving to attain balance or homeostasis.

A fascinating feature of the “fight or flight” mechanism is that blood (which is channeled from areas where it is currently not needed by a tightening of the blood vessels) is brought to areas where it is urgently needed.

For example, should there be a physical attack, blood drains from the skin, fingers, and toes so that less blood is lost, and is moved to “active areas” such as the thighs and biceps to help the body prepare for action.

This is why many people feel numbness and tingling during a panic attack - often misinterpreted as some serious health risk-such as the precursor to a heart attack. If you are really worried that such is the case with your situation, visit your doctor and have it checked out. At least then you can put your mind at rest.

Respiratory Effects

Probably one of the most frightening feelings that a person experiences during a panic attack is the fear of smothering or suffocating. Tightness in the chest and throat are very common. While most people can understand the fear of loosing control of the ability to breath, speaking from personal experience the anxiety is fueled because what you are really afraid of is your breathing stopping and that you will not be able to recover. The truth is that a panic attack will not stop our breathing.

A panic attack is associated with an increase in the speed and depth of breathing. This has obvious importance for the defense of the body since the tissues need to get more oxygen to prepare for action. The feelings produced by this increase in breathing, however, can include breathlessness, hyperventilation, and sensations of choking or smothering, and even pains or tightness in the chest.

As that I have experience panic attacks first hand, I can tell you that there were times when I wasn’t sure that my body would be able to slow my breathing down and I would concentrate on getting my breathing under control. Telling myself to take breath in and let it out. With my mingling in trying to gain control and disregard what my body needed, it sent my body into overdrive and intensify the feelings I was trying to overcome. It was not until I began using the technique that I will describe to you shortly that I was able to let my body do what it was designed to do.

One of the less obvious side effects of the increased breathing rate, is that blood flow to your brain actually decreases. Although the decrease is slight, and not dangerous, it can make you feel dizzy and lead to blurred vision, hot flushes and disorientation.

by Wendy Brausch

The art of yoga is a rather tough subject to discuss today. Globalization seems to have a devastating impact on this ancient concept. To facilitate people’s understanding, the mysteries of yoga and all its intricacies have been simplified into the modern day version of yoga practice.

Western civilization may find its contents to be mystical and complex, thus finds it hard to understand. To be on the safe side, it is good to gain a thorough understanding of a particular subject before you begin to speak of it from an expert’s viewpoint. Yoga is mainly perceived as a physical activity in the western part of the world. The rich philosophies behind yoga practice have been reduced into a simple form of art that focuses merely on achieving inner balance and peace.

It is one of the six schools of Hindu thoughts has roots deep within the pages of the Hindu Holy Scriptures. Indians understand that is not a mere physical activity, but yoga is part of a spiritual development that is realized through a systematic and disciplined physical approach. It is unfortunate that the western world would approach yoga as a mere physical activity. Yoga with its strange looking symbols may seem mystical to the average Joe, is often enough to perk up a considerable level of interest in the hidden aspects of this ancient practice, but sadly, they are often misunderstood.

This discipline is practiced as a popular sport. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial. The allure of yoga as an effective way to gain inner peace and balance has beckoned many to embrace this activity as well.

Almost all who proclaim themselves as yoga masters perpetrate these claims and the masses are undoubtedly fascinated. Fatal errors have been detected in the practice of yoga outside of India, showing the level of misunderstanding among the western practitioners. Closer observation reveals that the unique culture of each race has dramatically influenced the way yoga is practiced.

The busy western lifestyles certainly do not provide much space to contemplate on this philosophy. While meditation is an integral part of the practice, the westerners with their ever busy lifestyles certainly do not posses time for such luxuries. The Hindus have a different set of value system that is very different from the west, and places low importance in the mere accumulation of physical wealth. Unless these values are changed, it is impossible for westerners to achieve the true wisdom and enlightenment as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion.

It takes patience and time to experience a successful meditative session. This is what the westerners lack. The west seems cursed with the obsession to pursue the goal of building better lives in the form of lavish lifestyles and not in the philosophical way.

Yoga becomes a stylish endeavor instead of a spiritual experience. There is a lot of information going out promoting yoga as a form of sports. In fact you can grab any of those and start practicing yoga anywhere you want to. Even the famous people who are fake yoga gurus have garnered a lot of support from their disciples. This crooked philosophy has been widely spread by its loyal followers.

by Millicent Feraux

During pregnancy it is not uncommon for women to experience anxiety and panic attacks for the first time. This is not without reason

During pregnancy, the hormones in a pregnant woman’s body are all working overtime. It is these hormone changes which often cause the panic and anxiety. It is during pregnancy that every part of the woman’s body is involved and working differently than normal.

Pregnancy is a naturally stressful time for many women, particularly where the pregnancy is unexpected or unplanned, or where there are health concerns surrounding the pregnancy. When combined with these hormonal changes, pregnancy becomes a common time for panic and worry.

When I was pregnant, I seemed to be most worried about what was going to happen during the birth process and I was also worried about being a good mother. I was lucky as my extra anxiety and panic was considered by my doctor as being normal.

But for some women, anxiety and panic can be a problem especially in the third trimester which is the last 3 months of pregnancy. You might find it interesting to know that some women prone to anxiety and panic find these feelings actually go away during pregnancy. This shows a direct connection between hormone changes and anxiety and panic.

What can you do if you experience anxiety and panic attacks while pregnant? Pharmaceutical options may harm your child or interfere with the natural rhythmn of childbirth. Luckily there are natural solutions which help many women overcome these attacks.

* Relaxation- whenever you feel yourself getting stressed or anxious take time to relax. Find somewhere quiet and cool to lie down and just relax. Do not spend this time worrying or feeling anxious. Just allow yourself to think of something or somewhere calm and enjoyable to you.

* Share your problem - pregnancy is not something you have to do alone. Talk about your feelings with your partner, family or friends. All new mothers feel anxious and scared at some point and you are not unusual in this. Remember too that there are many professional counselling and therapy services available for people exactly like you.

* Breathe deeply - you will be surprised by how effective focused breathing can be. Try lying down and breathing deeply. Breathe in through your nose; blow out through your mouth. Take your time and keep breathing deeply and slowly until you feel better.

It can not be emphasized enough how important it is if you are pregnant and are feeling anxiety and having panic attacks that you get some help. It is not only important to you but to the health and growth of your baby.

Also for women who are pregnant, their husbands may also be prone to anxiety and panic attacks. Becoming a new father can be very stressful and your husband or significant other may be extremely worried about supporting the new child and if the both of you can afford a new baby.

These stresses can be just as serious as those of a mother, and men are often unwilling to share or discuss these issues. The outcome can often be anxiety or panic attacks.

If you notice your partner seems more stressed than usual it might be a good idea to talk to them about it. Pregnancy should be an enjoyable time. If you find yourself worrying or anxious, seek treatment.

Probably the most distressing symptom that one will experience during a panic attack is the terrible feeling of being unable to breathe. Sometimes the chest become so tight that breathing feels almost impossible. Then there are the times where breathing becomes so rapid and shallow that it is bordering on hyperventilating. Because this is probably the most common and one of the most distressing symptoms of a panic attack, almost all non-drug methods of dealing with panic attacks utilise breathing exercises in one form or another.

The most commonly used breathing technique to help in coping with an anxiety attack is controlled abdominal deep breathing. Part of the typical stress response in people and especially so in the case an anxiety attack or a panic attack is that their breathing starts to become extremely shallow. This rapid panting style of breathing is part of the body’s natural flight flight response. And while it may be natural, it is also very distressing to someone experiencing it during a panic attack.

Unfortunately when the person experiencing the panic attack and the associated difficulties with their breathing begins to notice their breathing difficulties the level of panic increases making them feel even worse.

When our breathing is disturbed in this way our nervous system provides feedback letting us know that we need to address this breathing issue. If we consciously become aware of the breathing problem and our nervous system is screaming at us to fix it and we are unable to fix it, the panic attack response gets stronger and stronger.

This is the vicious cycle of a panic attack.

The practice of deep controlled abdominal breathing will provide options the panic attack sufferer can use at the time of their attack. But a regular training program of controlled abdominal breathing must be undertaken if the ability to apply it during the extreme nervous system responses of a panic attack is desired.

This is just like training regularly for some sporting competition. The more you practice before the actual event the more automatic the desired responses will be come game time.

In order to be able to utilise this deep abdominal breathing during the extreme conditions of an actual panic attack a reasonable amount of familiarity with the technique needs to be in place. The best way to learn how to do this style of breathing is to practice it during times of zero stress and tension. And once you feel comfortable with the mechanics of the method you can then start looking for opportunities to practice and apply it during periods of medium level stress and anxiety.

As you can see we are taking the breathing technique we have learned in a neutral environment and slowly increasing our ability to use it in the field. In a very short time with regular practice you’ll have access to this breathing technique and be able to use it to help you handle your panic attacks.

While breathing in this way can help immeasurably during an actual panic attack, an even greater benefit is how the body becomes less prone to anxiety and stress generally, due to regular deep abdominal breathing, making the occurrence of future panic attacks less likely.

The technique of controlled abdominal breathing is quite simple. If this is your first attempt at breathing in this way remember to start slowly, as you would with any exercise, and gradually increase the length of time of your breathing practice sessions

You may not know this, but this way of breathing is the way our body is designed to breath. It is natural and normal. If you look at how toddlers breath you will see that they are belly breathers. As we get older for one reason or another we move into a more chesty way of breathing.

So this isn’t learning some weird or abnormal breathing technique. It is re-learning how to do soimething that is completely natural although for the most part completely forgotten.

The art of yoga is a rather tough subject to discuss today. Globalization seems to have a devastating impact on this ancient concept. To facilitate people’s understanding, the mysteries of yoga and all its intricacies have been simplified into the modern day version of yoga practice.

It is unwise to gain a shallow knowledge about a diverse topic and yet speaks about it from an expert’s viewpoint. The West tends to focus on the physical aspects of yoga. The rich philosophies behind yoga practice have been reduced into a simple form of art that focuses merely on achieving inner balance and peace.

It originates from the Hindu religion and it is actually a part of the Hindu philosophy. Any Indian would assure you that it is a spiritual experience that is manifested through a series of complicated physical practice. Viewing yoga as a physical activity is definitely a mistake. Most westerners are aware of the strange symbols associated with yoga practice, but often they are misunderstood.

Ironically, it is practiced as a popular form of sports. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial. Nevertheless many have been attracted to yoga as a form of practice to achieve inner peace and balance.

To gain maximum benefits from each meditation session, one needs to spare time and exercise tremendous patience in carrying out each essential part of the practice. The westerners do not place a high degree of importance in the attainment of philosophical wisdom, as it does for the accumulation of massive wealth and gaining power.

Yoga has been accepted as a fashion It is easy to practice yoga anywhere you want. There are plenty of materials for you to select from that are promoting this activity as a form of sports. Even fake gurus have support from their adoring disciples. These followers have become the pillars supporting the growth of this false and wrong philosophy.

Stress can be caused by any number of factors but most commonly a simple thought process that provokes a specific emotional response, such as sadness, fear or rage, in the individual is the cause for most of our day to day stress.

When someone experiences anxiety on the other hand, there is a strong feeling of uneasiness and apprehension that doesn’t always readily reveal its source. This can increase a person’s anxiety due to the fact that the reason why they are feeling anxious is not always obvious. So while stress and anxiety share certain similarities they are very different with causes being different and treatment options similarly needing to be different. Stress is generally speaking a milder type of condition while anxiety is a diagnosable condition that has specific psychological causes that need to be addressed in treatment.

When someone experiences stress the causes can be many. Emotional trauma is very common especially so if the trauma is a low grade and ongoing. Obvious emotional states such as fear or grief, as well as bio chemical issues such as blood sugar regulation problems and adrenal depletion, can be likely causes of stress.

Effectively treating anxiety and stress means that the causative factors must be identified. Even though some of the factors that we have mentioned above will in most cases be present to some degree, every persons case will be different. This can be problematic when you attempt to treat yourself, but it is possible. One of the most useful techniques that can be used is to begin to take note of the particular circumstances that accompany your anxiety attacks or peak stress periods with a view to trying to identify factors that may be causing your stress and anxiety.

Once the cause of the stress and anxiety has been uncovered finding someone who you can talk to openly about your specific issue is often advised. Whether that person be a professional therapist, a support group or simply someone who you can talk things out with, finding someone to talk with and work out some solutions that are appropriate, and most importantly that you will follow through with, is often the best form of self help in these situations.

In addition to a therapeutic approach to dealing with your anxiety and stress, make sure that your everyday lifestyle supports the therapy you are undertaking. Get moving. Regular exercise has been proven to help reduce levels of stress and increase wellbeing apart from the obvious fitness benefits. Proper sleep and rest are essential as are a healthy well balanced eating plan. Making sure these things are in place will make a huge difference to how you feel now and quite likely prevent the anxiety and stress from getting to levels that are difficult to manage in the future.

If you find that your levels of stress and anxiety get to the point where they are causing major physical symptoms such as chest pain, breathing constriction or palpitations along with thoughts of suicide please seek medical help immediately.

Going to the shopping mall may seem easy to you and me, but for someone who suffers with a social phobia it can quickly become so overwhelming that the trip ruins their whole week. A person who suffers with social anxiety may find the shopping mall to be no problem but they may struggle to eat in a crowded restaurant, different people find different situations cause anxiety.

Different people fear different types of situations, just because they both have anxiety disorders it doesn’t mean that 2 people will both find the same situations cause them to suffer anxiety. People that have social anxiety disorders may have some of these symptoms while they are in certain social situations.

Imagine spending your work day terrified that you will make a mistake. We all make mistakes, it is natural and no one can be 100% perfect all the time. When most of us make a mistake we just deal with it and move on. If you suffer with social anxiety the fear of making a mistake could well overwhelm your mind and drive you into a situation of total panic.

In situations that cause fear, people who have social anxiety disorder will feel intense anxiety. The anxiety they feel may lead to trembling, pounding heart, blushing, nausea, and sweating. For many having this anxiety will turn into a panic attack.

These symptoms of anxiety can often lead to embarrassment for the person that has social anxiety. Some people that have social anxiety disorder are comfortable being only with close family and friends. Others people with social anxiety only fear certain social situations. Some people become anxious when they are dealing with people in higher positions such as their boss.

The anticipation of an event can be almost as bad as the actual event for people who have social anxiety disorders. Public speaking is one of the best known fears that people have, imagine having that level of fear every time you want to use a public toilet?

Many more women than men suffer with social anxiety disorder, possibly because they feel extra pressure to be perfect in social situations, but no one seems to really know. It is not uncommon for people to have social anxieties, there are certainly hundreds of thousands if not millions of people who suffer with it to various degrees in America alone.

Social anxiety disorder usually will start at a early age. You can be shy and still not experience the same intense anxiety that people do with social anxiety disorder. Shy people usually do not avoid certain social situations like people that have social anxiety disorders. Social anxiety disorder can overtake someone’s life if they allow it to.

Anxiety Attack Frequently Asked questions

Statistics suggest that an anxiety attack can be experienced by one out of every sixty individuals. Thats a lot of people. While many are worried that it will lead to some sort of anxiety disorder, most cases do not. A panic attack is characterized by feelings of intense fear and distress. Typically, the feeling also affects the body. People who experience an anxiety attack also experience hyperventilation, lightheadedness, numbness, and nausea.

Anxiety Attack The Things That People Ask

I feel like Im going to die. Will the experience harm me?
Some people become extremely distressed after experiencing anxiety attacks. Some feel that they cant breathe or they become so scared that they cant move. But the truth is that they seldom cause any physiological damage.

Is there something wrong with me?
Anxiety attacks rarely happen to people who have a healthy lifestyle and mental state. However, not everyone who has them can automatically be called mentally ill. Some experience it on account of abnormally difficult situations. Some have it because they have unhealthy attitudes in life. Some experience anxiety attacks as a result of drug abuse. Anyone who experiences recurrent anxiety attacks is a candidate for treatment though.

What happens after an attack?
The effects of attacks differ from one person to another. Some become completely exhausted and need to lie down. Some experience intense pain in their muscles. Some become extremely dizzy. While not particularly threatening by itself, panic attacks can lead to serious problems when they occur in public places.

What kind of treatment should I get?
Cognitive behavioral therapy is by far the most common. This technique uses stress management techniques at the onset of an attack to prevent its escalation into a full blown episode. This can include breathing exercises, mental distractions, and other activities to help remove a patients focus on the object or event causing distress.

Individuals can also get medication from their doctor; however, this is usually discouraged. Medication for anxiety problems are typically very addicting. Hence, there is a very strong preference for pure behavioral therapy. An anxiety attack is usually part of a bigger problem so treatment depends on the type of illness that induces it.

Anxiety Attack Symptom How Do You Spot It?

Sudden and extreme fear is a typical anxiety attack symptom. Anxiety attacks can appear in a variety of ways. A person can experience nausea, shortness of breath, and inexplicable feelings of terror. Some people report getting extremely excited as if they needed to run away from something. Many people may experience this at some point in their lives. However, repeat occurrences usually indicate some kind of anxiety disorder. Below is what an anxiety attack symptom looks like.

Anxiety Attack Symptom A Short Description

People who suffer from an anxiety attack cannot predict it. Its occurrence is almost instantaneous. Recurrent anxiety attacks are usually experienced by those with existing anxiety disorders. However, as many as one in sixty people can experience an anxiety attack at one point of their lives. A person can develop anxiety attacks from traumatic experiences, depression or from drugs.

A typical anxiety attack usually lasts up to ten minutes. However, some people experience much longer episodes. A trigger is usually responsible for the onset of the attack. Being in the same area where a traumatic event happened is a typical cause. The physiological response is triggered by the sudden release of adrenaline. A rapid heart-rate, sweating, dilated pupils, and an intense sensation of numbness or lightheadedness. It is also possible for people to feel as though they could not breathe.

Anxiety Attack Symptom Available Treatments

Anxiety attacks that often recur are symptoms of some type of mental illness. Depression is a frequent cause. A lot of phobias can be accompanied by anxiety attacks. One of the most effective treatments for anxiety attacks is cognitive behavioral therapy. This form of therapy focuses on the modifying the thinking patterns of patients. Many psychologists have observed that during anxiety attacks people over-exaggerate their fears and have irrational thoughts.

Techniques done to modify these behaviors include forcing patients to modify thinking patterns. They are instructed to force themselves to think about other things when an attack happens. Doing this repeatedly can discipline the mind of the patient - this breaks the unhealthy habit.

Another method that psychologists use to help treat patients is to train them to do breathing exercises. This involves making them take deep breaths at the onset of anxiety attacks. This improves oxygen intake, relaxes, and calms down the individual. Psychologists also use other stress relief and calming techniques, but these will depend on the patient. Using medication to treat an anxiety attack symptom is the last resort.
